SUMMARY:Second Annual Gather 'Round the Railroad District
DESCRIPTION:Gather ‘Round the Railroad District is back for a second year! This unique event brings together music lovers of all ages and backgrounds through a FREE\, walkable collection of concerts in Ashland’s picturesque Railroad District neighborhood. With 7 incredible bands performing at 4 different outdoor concert sites\, attendees are in for a memorable evening of live music. \nGather ‘Round the Railroad District promises a diverse range of musical genres\, and a chance to immerse seasoned world music aficionados and world-music newbies alike in the vibrant energy of the Railroad District neighborhood. Coinciding with the Ashland’s First Friday Artwalk\, the event brings the vibrancy of public arts to a historic Ashland neighborhood\, drawing people to gather and connect in public spaces outside of downtown Ashland. Concert locations include Railroad Park\, KS Wild\, Arkitek Design & Architecture and Umpqua Bank. Attendees embarking on the Gather ‘Round music route have the opportunity to experience a taste of each concert happening at the various outdoor locations by circling back around the music route as the evening progresses in order to catch the second round of bands\, which will start playing at 6 pm. Alternatively\, attendees can stay at one location for the full performance of a favorite band. Folks are encouraged to bring a chair and get comfortable if they don’t want to do the full stroll. \nThough free to attend\, this event is collecting donations to support Rogue World Music programming. By December 31st\, Rogue World Music will have provided free public arts programming to over 10\,000 people in 2024. This includes the Rogue World Music Festival- a multi-day\, multi-city event held every Memorial Day weekend\, world music education for K-5th graders throughout the Rogue Valley\, Wassailing workshops this fall & winter\, and more. Public arts is a powerful connector of people and uplifter of public spaces. Besides being way less attractive than Shakira\, they all stand out as exceptional innovators of their hand craft at a time when so much blends into  the realm of formula and in-distinction.  They have been collaborating on stage and in the studio for the past decade and continue to create absolutely stunning instrumental music that moves the body\, mind and soul in equal measure.  The band can best be described as an acoustically influenced effervescent power trio for the 21st century. Their new CD\, The Thread of Joy\, is out now and is receiving great reviews. \nHailed by many as the world’s leading solo bassist\, Michael Manring has been pushing back the boundaries of what’s possible on the bass guitar for over four decades. He has honed his skills on hundreds of recordings as a session musician and thousands of concerts throughout the world. Always adventurous\, Michael has worked with a surprisingly diverse collection of musicians from New Age keyboardist Suzanne Ciani to avant-improv guitar innovator Henry Kaiser to celebrated folk troubadour John Gorka to electro-pop pioneer Thomas Dolby.  His long-term collaboration and close friendship with the late acoustic guitar genius Michael Hedges led to a lengthy stint as house bassist for Windham Hill Records; a label for which he also worked as a solo artist. He has garnered two Gold Records\, Grammy and Bammie nominations\, a Berklee School of Music Distinguished Alumni Award and numerous Bass Player Magazine Reader’s Poll Awards including 1994 Bassist of the Year. “Forget his astounding technique\, musicality and absolute command of his instruments; …The enlightenment comes most from feeling the joy Michael feels to be playing…his brand of transcendental chops and musical understanding…is all in the service of the final outcome\, the joy of making music.” (Tom Darter\, Keyboard Magazine).
